On the Verge of One Petabyte - the Story Behind the BaBar Database System
نویسندگان
چکیده
The BaBar database has pioneered the use of a commercial ODBMS within the HEP community. The unique object -oriented architecture of Objectivity/DB has made it possible to manage over 700 terabytes of production data generated since May'99, making the BaBar database the world's largest known database. The ongoing development includes new features, addressing the ever-increasing luminosity of the detector as well as other changin g physics requirements. Significant efforts are focused on reducing space requirements and operational costs. The paper discusses our experience with developing a large scale database system, emphasizing universal aspects which may be applied to any large scale system, independently of underlying technology used.

The BABAR Database: Challenges, Trends and Projections
The BABAR database, based upon the Objectivity OO database management system, has been in production since early 1999. It has met its initial design requirements which were to accommodate a 100Hz event rate from the experiment at a scale of 200TB per year. However, with increased luminosity and changes in the physics requirements, these requirements have increased significantly for the current ...

One of the characteristics of the language of mysticism, like that of poetry and art, is its imagery and analogy. Evidently there is also al close relationship between mysticism and myth. It is on the basis of these two facts that the writer of this article following a brief report on the allegorical language of mysticism examines the relationship between mysticism and myth by investigating the...
متن کاملPursuit of a Scalable High Performance Multi-Petabyte Database
When the BaBar experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center starts in April 1999, it will generate approximately 200TB/year of data at a rate of 10MB/sec for 10 years. A mere six years later, CERN, the European Laboratory for Particle Physics, will start an experiment whose data storage requirements are two orders of magnitude larger. In both experiments, all of the data will reside in ...

متن کاملAn Authorization Framework for Database Systems
Today, data plays an essential role in all levels of human life, from personal cell phones to medical, educational, military and government agencies. In such circumstances, the rate of cyber-attacks is also increasing. According to official reports, data breaches exposed 4.1 billion records in the first half of 2019. An information system consists of several components, which one of the most im...
